About Manayunk Art Center
Established in April 1953, the Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center (MRAC) emerged from the Cultural Committee of the Manayunk Neighborhood Council. In January 1956, it sponsored the First Annual Manayunk Art Show, leading to the formation of The Manayunk Art Alliance in November 1957. Their mission, promoting arts development and appreciation, materialized with the first Members Art Show in March 1958, followed by the initiation of adult art classes in October of the same year.
Driven by its expanding services, the Art Alliance secured a permanent home in 1962 at 419 Green Lane in Roxborough. Acquiring non-profit status as The Manayunk Art Center (501(C)(3)), it solidified its commitment to fostering the visual, spoken, and performance arts. In 2010, a renaming to The Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center reflected its geographical and service scope.
At the core of its mission, the center aims to cultivate an appreciation for the arts, literary expression, and cultural pursuits. Dedicated to unveiling and nurturing visual, spoken, and performance arts in local and regional communities, MRAC serves as a vital meeting place for the artistic community. The vision, encapsulated in the statement “Artists bringing people together,” embodies the commitment to connect creative minds with each other and the broader public, fostering a vibrant, collaborative artistic environment.
